UMass Boston Chapter
Professional Staff Union
MTA/NEA.
Our goal is to build a union which reflects the needs and desires of our own members and which connects those needs and desires to those of hundreds of thousands of other public education employees throughout Massachusetts. We strive for democratic and effective unionism, leadership accountability, and a forceful collective response to the widespread campaigns aimed at undermining public higher education and the staff and faculty who make it work.

On June 6, 2009 PSU members on the Boston and Amherst campuses voted to ratify the two new contracts (2008-2009 and 2009-2012). The contracts were ratified on both campuses by approximately 98% of those voting.
The contract have been signed by the University President and the Governor. They are now before the legislature for funding.
The bargaining team is appreciative for the support and action from our members throughout the negotiating process.
The salary increase effective July 4th, 2010 (next year, not this year) includes a small pool for “merit awards.” Only staff who have completed a Performance Management Program evaluation for the prior year will be eligible for those awards.
The first step in the Performance Management program is called “performance planning,” and it is described in the PMP handbook.
